Winners Awarded for the best applications in the Open Data Hackathon competition

The application '', created by Jordan Krstevski and Ivana Taleska, won the first prize in the Open Data Hackathon competition which was held between 3-22 of June. More than 50 participants had an opportunity to create applications with Open Government Data.


The first prize-winning application makes it easier for users to find the nearest parking lot. The second prize winner, Stefan Kostovski, has created the application 'SmartPhonebook' which notifies if some of user’s contacts have changed their mobile operator and how much it costs to make a call. The third place winning application 'CultureApp' created by Kristian Arsovski and Darko Kotoski, gives an overview of theater and movie repertory and offers you the possibility to book and buy tickets online.


Minister of Information Society and Administration, Ivo Ivanovski and the General Manager of Microsoft office in Macedonia Stefan Plavjanski handed over awards to the winners of the competition."The Open Data Hackathon competition", said Ivanovski, "have motivated young people to use open data in order to develop and implement their ideas".


"The Republic of Macedonia joined the Global Initiative for Open Government Partnership as the 32nd country in 2011, and a number of activities were taken in this respect over the last 4 years. With 154 open databases available, the Republic of Macedonia is a leader in the region and beyond, and this recognition came from the Open Data Institute. Most popular is the database of kindergarten addresses – 294 downloads, followed by the Budget of the Republic of Macedonia database-105 downloads and the private kindergarten addresses- 93 downloads", Minister Ivanovski said.


Open Data Hackathon competition will become traditional and will be held next year, said General Manager of Microsoft office in Macedonia Stefan Plavjanski. The winners of the competition were awarded with mobile phones and tablet PC’s.
