Ivanovski:Macedonia has seen steady growth in the ICT Sphere

Ministry of Information Society and Administration organized a public debate on Draft National Short-Term ICT Strategy (2016 – 2017) and Action plan, attended by representatives of public, private, academic sector and Catherine Stocker, Deputy Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation. Speaking at the event, Minister of Information Society and Administration Ivo Ivanovski referred to the steady growth in the ICT sphere in recent years:

 

"Total value of Macedonian ICT market in 2013 was approximately 450 million of euro, where IT market value was 100 million of euro, meaning that software generated around 20 million of euro. IT market segments had following market share: 62% was hardware, 25,6% IT services and 13% packaged software", Ivanovski said.

 

In the ICT sector there are 1.446 active companies (end of 2013) that employ 16.205 employees or 2,4% of the overall employed workforce (2Q 2014) that generated 4,1% of the total country value added, or €288,3. In year 2013 this sector exported telecommunication, computer and information services in a value of €119,7 million which represents 13% growth comparing to 2012.

 

The short-term Strategy aims to maximize the contribution of the ICT industry towards sustainable economic development and support job creation within the ICT. It covers the period until 2017, which is the first step towards creation of a long-term strategy. The four areas of focus are: providing business support for ICT companies, creating of ICT society, promoting public-private dialogue and improving formal and informal education, including life-long learning.

 

Minister Ivanovski thanked the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (IME project) for their support and all participants who contributed to the creation of this Strategy: The Economic Chamber of Macedonia, ICT Chamber, MASIT, Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies, "Goce Delcev" University – Shtip, South-East European University, St. Clement of Ohrid University – Bitola, UIST "St. Paul the Apostle"-Ohrid, The Agency for Electronic Communications, Agency for audio and audiovisual media services and FITD.
