Arsovska Tomovska at the 'ICT in Agribusiness' Conference

Minister of Information Society and Administration Marta Arsovska Tomovska addressed at the opening of the 'ICT in Agribusiness Conference' , organized by the ICT Chamber of Commerce MASIT, held at the Aleksandar Palace Hotel in Skopje.


Emphasizing the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia for Information society development, Arsovska Tomovska pointed to the projects implemented by the Ministry and other state institutions, to reap the benefits of information and communications technologies in all spheres of society: Е-Inclusion, Е-Government, Е-Health , Е-education , Е- culture , Е- taxes, and the Short-term ICT strategy adopted in order to increase the contribution of the ICT industry towards sustainable economic development.


”The application of ICT in agriculture is especially important for the development of Macedonian products, for competing in domestic and global markets”, Arsovska Tomovska said. She referred to the usage of wireless technologies, GPS, GIS, smart phones, computer- controlled devices, radio frequency identification (RFID), Management Information Systems, e- marketing and e-commerce.


The aim of the conference was to gather all stakeholders from ICT sector and Аgriculture industry in order to present current trends, identify the cooperation potential, exchange expertise and best practices, as well as to facilitate and encourage mutual cooperation.


”ICT in Agribusiness is a relatively new approach focusing on the increase and improvement of agricultural production through conceptualization design, development, evaluation and application of innovative ways to use information and communication technologies (IT) in the rural domain”, Arsovska Tomovska said, adding: ”Measures such as instruments of the Fund for Innovations, the IPARD funds and establishing a special fund for ICT solutions development support in Agribusiness, are of great importance”.


Minister of agriculture, forestry and water economy Mihail Cvetkov, Stefan Plavjanski, MASIT Managing Board President, James Stein, USAID Mission Director for Macedonia and Andrej Mertelj, CEO Datalab Tehnologije, also addressed at the opening of the event.
