Skopje, 28th May 2016

The Minister of information society and administration Marta Arsovska Tomovska opened the first National “Microsoft Office Specialist” competition, organized by the CertiAdria, together with the Microsoft Macedonia Company. The competitors, aged 13 and 22, had the opportunity to show their skills and knowledge of the Microsoft Office application, such as Microsoft Word, Excel® and Power Point.

“Digital skills take the second place among the most wanted skills when a candidate applies for a job position. Being digitally literate is the same as being traditionally literate, or being able of reading and writing. In this context, it is very important to promote the digital literacy among the youngest people in the Republic of Macedonia, and this competition organized today is aimed to find young people who are talented, to select the best among them and to further ensure their participation in the world competition to be held in the USA”, said Arsovska Tomovska.

She pointed out that the Government of the Republic of Macedonia supported this and many other initiatives and helped providing a wide range of scholarships in the information and computer science field, in order to enable young people to use computers from their earliest ages, and also to learn computer programming.

In the period from November 2015 to May 2016, some 1.430 candidates from entire Macedonia passed 1.960 tests of Word, Excel, PowerPoint from the MS Office 2010 and 2013. Those who have passed the tests received globally recognized certificates. Ranked according to the highest results, the best 45 participants among them competed today. The best competitor will represent our country in the World Microsoft Office Specialist Competition to be held in Orlando, the USA, in August.
