Skopje, April 12th, 2019
The Minister of Information Society and Administration, Damjan Manchevski, co-chaired the Subcommittee on Innovation, Information Society and Social Policy in the European Commission. As Minister Manchevski noted, it is of utmost importance for North Macedonia to chair this subcommittee in this period. He focused his opening remarks on the state's progress in these areas.
"Signing the Agreement between Greece and North Macedonia is important for both countries, for the region and for the European Union. Successful ratification of the Agreement by both parties receives many positive comments. On the other hand, the possibility to initiate explanatory technical process with the EU is very important for the overall atmosphere in the country, and for public administration as well. Expectations are that additional impetus to continue reforms will be secured in June, following the decision to initiate accession negotiations, in close partnership with the European Commission", said Minister Manchevski, and informed that explanatory meetings are underway, as per plan.
As Minister Manchevski said in his speech, reforms and investments in education, strenghtening social and employment policies, development of information society and guarantees of media freedom and independence are the only path towards strenghtening the economy in North Macedonia.
"These policies are a manner to create better job positions, improved work conditions, sustainable development, new digital opportunities for people and businesses, improved access and connection of citizens, reliable broadband and wireless connections and many other benefits. That is why I believe we should utilize these opportunities to discuss and exchange experiences in attainment of the best possible results", concluded Minister Manchevski.
The Subcommittee on Innovation, Information Society and Social Policy is one of the bodies for dialogue between the Republic of North Macedonia and the European Union, established within the Committee on Stabilization and Association. Meetings are held once annually, to discuss matters related to implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement in areas covered under this subcommittee.
