Three topics in the focus of discussion at the Broadband Commission for Digital Development meeting in Ohrid

Three topics were in the focus of discussion at the meeting of the Broadband Commission and Digital Development held in Ohrid today.


As presented at the press-conference after the meeting, greatest attention had been paid to the letter of the Commission addressing the Summit of 20 most developed countries in the world, more precisely to the topic of the broadband internet and digital development importance and the need for paying more attention to stimulating investments, both in information technology development and development and application of contents in different languages for making it more accessible to all regions in the world.


The second topic discussed at the meeting was in regard with the forthcoming Summit “Rio 20 plus” to be held in Rio de Janeiro in June on the topic sustainable IT and environmental protection. The importance of the issue stems from the estimations that increase of efficacy and IT processes optimization can reduce use of fossil fuel up to 15 percent.


The third topic discussed by the members of the Commission was channeling of information and communication technologies development in respect of opening new jobs and reducing unemployment, first of all among young population in global frames, the ways how the Commission should treat that topic, how to elaborate and present it to the General Assembly of UN in New York scheduled for September this year.


The 5th meeting of the Broadband Commission for Digital Development in Ohrid was attended by representatives from Australia, Rwanda, Italia, France, USA, Singapore, Serbia, Qatar, South Korea and Finland. There were also representatives of international institutions such as the OECD, UNESCO, ITU and the European Commission, as well as representatives of the multinational companies Telefonica, CISCO, Alcatel, Ericson and INSO.
