Macedonia shows interest in using open data

Minister of Information Society and Administration Ivo Ivanovski and General Manager of Microsoft office in Macedonia Stefan Plavjanski announced the upcoming event, Open Data Hackathon. The idea is to raise awareness about the values of open government data which will be used by young developers and innovators to create new applications.

 

”We've been collaborating with 27 institutions whose data are available in computer readable format and ready to be used by potential developers, companies, civil sector etc . There are 39 links, 82 databases and 33 files", Ivanovski said. The Ministry has launched the web portal www.otvorenipodatoci.gov.mk in order to stimulate the content development, application creation and services.

 

”According to the statistics, the most commonly used and popular is database of kindergarten addresses - 246 downloads, then the Budget of Republic of Macedonia-90 and the address list of private nursery schools-88 downloads”, Ivanovski said. Minister called upon the developers to participate in the upcoming Hackathon with their own applications and to contact the Ministry of Information Society and Administration by 20th of May in case they need additional data.

 

"The hackathon event will last until June 15th when we will present awards ", said Plavjanski, General Manager of the Microsoft office in Macedonia.
